This Week at Long Beach State
Player of the Week: Josh Tuaniga, Men’s Volleyball – Josh Tuaniga was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament as he led the Long Beach State men’s volleyball team to the 2018 National Championship. Tuaniga had 36 assists, five digs, three kills and one service ace, while piloting the Beach offense to a .325 attack percentage.

Long Beach State captured its second National Championship with a five-set win over UCLA. The Beach were led by NCAA All-Tournament Team selections Josh Tuaniga, who was named MVP, TJ DeFalco and Kyle Ensing.

The Dirtbags earned their first series sweep of the season at UC Riverside. Freshman Leonard Jones had an impressive 8 RBIs in the series, including his first career home run in the first inning of Sunday’s win. Saturday starter Clayton Andrews set a new career high with 13 Ks and also had four hits in the win.

Long Beach State won a fifth conference series, taking two out of three on the road at UC Davis. Along the way, the Beach won their 40th game, the ninth time in school history the program has won 40 in a season.
Track and Field
at Big West Championships – Multi-Events
John Broadhead finished in third place in the decathlon with the seventh highest score in school history, leading four participants from the Beach in the first weekend of the Big West Championships.
Men’s Golf
at Big West Championship
Long Beach State finished the season with a fourth place finish at the Big West Championship held at Industry Hills Golf Course. Joe Fryer was the top individual for the Beach, finishing in a tie for ninth place after a final round 68.
